King Priam and Paul Bunyan

English Touring Opera’s present productions of Michael Tippett’s King Priam and Britten’s rarely performed operetta Paul Bunyan at the Royal Opera House’s Linbury Studio Theatre as part of a UK tour.

In King Priam, the king’s wife dreams their newborn son will cause his father’s death. Torn between love for the child and his duty as a king, Priam reluctantly agrees to the boy’s murder. His choice leads to a cataclysmic, bloody war.

Britten’s collaboration with W.H. Auden is musically charming, dreamlike and as surprising and innocent as a Chagall painting.
